Sometimes Tals eyes are larger than his stomach... And while his stomach usually DOES stretch to accomodate what his eyes say yes to, sometimes he does encounter particularly stubborn prey. In this case, its

the only thing worse then a dragon who's scales can't be digested is one that can somehow also seal up their body so that the acids can't get under or past the scales either, especially if they can cheat by making fresh air inside their bodies and thus have no need to open up to breath
