So my renderings of Brer Rabbit and brer Fox turned out well enough that I wanted to try drawing them some more. The poses and dialog for this image were inspired/taken from an old Disney comic. Yes--Disney actually depicted the riding story in books and comics, and it WAS slated for the movie, but never made it to final production Again, I am very happy with my rendering of these two.
These particular renderings of Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox are © Disney. Dialog © Disney.

Actually, I was going to type a very long comment here, but this link is far better:

As for the comics- there are quite a load of them. About 700 by this date, to be exact. You have the old comics, the newspaper comics, and the current (mostly Dutch) comics. I'm pretty sure the riding story has been adapted at least twice. I own about 500 Brer Rabbit comics myself- the only version I can think of now is a pretty badly drawn one from 1975. I have it both in Dutch and German. Since the riding story is so well known, I can hardly imagine there wouldn't be a comic from the 40s. (like a Paul Murry one) There's a fat chance there's also a newspaper comic/sunday page based on the story.
I also have the SotS giant golden book from 1947, which also has an illustated version of the story in it :)

Hey, Henreike. Just noticed your comment reply above. Thanks for the info. As far as Disney adapting the story, I know of only three instances (I have all of these):
http://www.songofthesouth.net/memor...../ridesfox.html
http://www.songofthesouth.net/memor.....heeriosx3.html
http://www.songofthesouth.net/memor.....lden/ggb3.html
If you know of another please let me know. As for non-Disney re-tellings, yes there have been several. I've been collecting Brer Rabbit books for years. Don't have the Dutch comic you mention though (don't collect comics).
