My old Tauren sculpture and even older anubis jar.
I made the anubis thing when Yu-gi-oh was cool....lol
and the tauren isnt glazed because he exploded in the kiln.
I fixed him, obviosly, but I couldn't glaze him because the glue would melt....so he stays as is.
(The bowl is removable and was done on a potter's wheel)
I'll get more pix of him later.

They do have paint's that'll work on pottery. And if the bowl comes out you could always glaze that seperate if you wanted. If he's fired you could use anything from acrylics to (and I'd recomend) the glass paints and then shelack him if you wanted him shiny or use one of the clear matte top coats to make parts not so shiny. Very cool pieces even as is though.
