This is my re-imagining of the Excelsior class if it was redesigned for the late 24th Century.

The drawing is kind of a hybrid but I'll stick with saying that the spaceframe is closer to Enterprise-E, as the Federation didn't have escape pods of that design being used during Excelsior's era. Also, Excelsior-class still stuck with the circular primary hull; elliptical hulls didn't begin until Enterprise-D, as even E-C had a circular primary

Also, the nacelles are using E-D / E-E-style Bussard collectors.
It's personal, I know, but I would play her off as E-E era, a smaller sister design with more scientific resources (they made E-E very defense oriented, thanks to the Borg threat).

Took me a double take to make sure it wasn't a sovereign with better contrasting bits (which is an awesome idea in itself).
I really like the direction you went with this, a lot more than the path they took with the akira-class style. This feels more like a logical progression of the design patterns of the last generations, new movies notwithstanding.

Thank you, thank you very much.
While I have my problems with the design, it is much, much better than most since TNG.
If I have a typical Star Trek-looking Starship, let me have one, but I can't stand these desings with the huge saucers and these itty-bitty lower sections.
Your design makes me believe that the lower section holds a reactor big enough to power the ship.
Again, thank you.

Like others I thought that this was a Sovereign Class as well. But that mainly due to the fact that the Sovereign Class looks like the combination of the Excelsior Class and the Intrepid Class, with hints of the Constitution and Constitution Re-fit. But this is still very cool. Makes me wish that CBS would allow for another Star Trek series. But no they wish to continue with new movie line.
I gotta say, I like this design WAY better than 90% of the rubbish ones they threw in themselves.. they should stop designing their own and let the fans do it. 'Cause they lied outright about being Trek fans and it shows. The incorrect details they put into their ships alone is an abomination that any self respecting trekker/trekkie would never allow. Especially on the classic ships like the refit... which is a MESS in that game!
Doesn't help a ways back they promised to fix those issues and.. nope, never did :/
should resubmit this if they ever do it again.

With all the Excelsior class ships that saw service in the Dominion War era, nearly a full century after they were originally introduced, I can very easily imagine Starfleet having heavily updated and refit them through the decades and coming up with something like this. Too bad the studio was so cheap, and we never got to see an updated Excelsior. (Besides the Enterprise-B variant, and even that would have been an antique design by the DS-9 era.)
Kudos!
Kudos!
5 years late but this is stunning - instead, STO introduced a rather UGLY 25th century, Tier 6 version of the Excelsior (Resolute Class). They should have kept some of the designs from the contest, such as this one, but clearly didn't bother. Would love to be flying this impressive, sleek looking workhorse!
kinda reminds me of the resolute class but with different nacelles and deflector
