
Finished project for a friend of mine from the Ren Faire. He paid me in mittens! I love them.
I always forget how much different basswood looks after you've soaked it in linseed. The grain really pops out! It looks really good in the right light, but at some angles the grain kind of looks like shadows and it makes the whole thing look a little wonky.
I'm really happy to be carving again.

I was thinking about doing steel engraving work and seeing if any furs liked it and then I saw your masterful shaping/engraving of wood. This is definitely amazing work man, especially the little string that you carved out.
I've never worked with basswood, does it tend to have long fibers or does it work more like walnut?
