CHAPTER 1
It had been a great while since the incident on the B.S.L research station and the subsequent destruction of it, the X and even SR388. All these events added up to earn Samus a position of contempt within the Galactic Federation. She assumed the worst; that she was now a wanted fugitive.
A display of information cropped up along with a beep from the ship's comm-station. Samus found the details intriguing as she looked them over. It was not a bounty nor information on the Federation, but rather a lead from one of her anonymous contacts. After what had transpired on Zebes, Samus had made it a point to keep contacts with various intel sources to ensure that the pirates never rose to power again. No matter where they ran or hid, she would hunt them down.
This particular piece of intel was particularly worrying. A cloning facility had supposedly been established on the galactic edge, NPP-013. It was a place that the Federation kept minimal watch and security over. They believed it was too far from any of the pirate's supply routes to be a viable base. Could the pirates be trying to clone metroids? Samus had to admit that she was just as skeptical, but if the pirates did indeed have access to a cloning facility there was no limit to the kinds of horrors they could produce. She plotted in the coordinates. There was no time to waste.
Her ship touched down on the outskirts of the supposed base. As her scanners had shown pirate activity to be limited to a handful of signatures, Samus had purposely chosen to approach this as a stealth operation and forego the use of her Power Suit. Without Mother Brain the pirates were disorganized at best; after her crash landing on Zebes and infiltrating the very heart of a Pirate battleship, this would pose no problem. An extension of this choice was that Samus also wanted to preserve the facility. She could use it as a sort of bargaining chip with the Federation. As if it were somehow destroyed in a skirmish or had a self-destruct mechanism, then so would her chances of making good with them. Assuming she could indeed accomplish this, there would be the matter of deleting all information regarding metroids. Samus had seen first-hand just how much interest the Federation had in weaponizing metroids and anything else of equal caliber. She armed her Paralyzer and set it to maximum. It was time to get to work.
Another pirate thudded lifelessly to the floor. As with all the pirates she had come across so far, this one had not been equipped for combat. Every pirate stationed here had either been a researcher or engineer, something Samus took comfort in.
More winds and bends finally deposited Samus at the entrance to the command center of the facility. Standard breaching tactics made short work of the last few pirates within the room. She hurriedly moved without pause to what she could identify as a control terminal.
Skimming over the files she found no references or data regarding metroids or any bio-weapons for that matter. The only inputs and bits of what she could make out without her Scan Visor seemed to mention Ridley several times. He couldn't possibly have survived, not after the complete obliteration of Zebes. Were they trying to clone him?
Further sifting yielded that there were no attempts at such a process. At least not in strict terms. It confirmed what Samus already knew. Ridley was indeed dead, the pirates had no doubt been unable to recover any part of him to even think of making a clone. The files stated that they were instead attempting to clone another Zebesian Space Dragon from fossilized remains. The plan was to take the newly cloned dragon and subject it to VR training and mental conditioning to make a suitable replacement for Ridley. Samus scoffed. The pirates really were against the wall if they were willing to bring back a creature as volatile as a dragon. If the clone somehow went rampant, it could easily wipe out what was left of them. The same training didn't necessarily mean the same results.
Where they had retrieved the remains was classified with security protocols beyond Samus' knowledge, but what she had gathered was already enough to know what to do. The files had mentioned the location of the stasis tank containing the clone within the lowest area of the facility. She had to destroy it, there was no other option. Something like this was far too dangerous to allow the pirates or even the Federation to have.
Security at the bottom of the facility was heavy, but still not enough to deter the bounty hunter. The reinforced doors to the stasis room had ironically been more of a challenge to get by. What was beyond them was unmistakably what the files had mentioned. Tubes and monitoring equipment fed into a large capsule at the center of the room, no doubt the clone was in there. There were even fossilized samples of what appeared to be a Zebesian Dragoness. She approached one of the slabs to hopefully get a better look at them. As she did, a small piece of bone detached from the main fossil and floated towards her face. She felt it become assimilated by her body. With a start, Samus jumped back on instinct. Had she just absorbed the bone? She laid it all out in her head and thought back to when she had absorbed the X parasites and even the SA-X. It was obvious that she had acquired the ability to "eat" them that metroids possessed. But could she have taken on some of the former's traits as well? She would have pondered the question further, but a cramp in her hands and feet pulled her away. She could feel them pulsing. Changing......
