She is a virtual nightmare to Manhattan's criminal underworld. Many citizens support her activities, calling her a "Light in the Dark." The government, however, wants her captured alive because of her supposed crimes, but really, they probably want to study her.

Nova has abnormally large ears which give her excellent hearing and balance. She has perfect vision and can see very well in the dark, giving her a significant advantage in Old Manhattan's shadowy underground. Her tail is semi-prehensile and assists in balance.

Nova can produce flames from on anywhere on her body. She can also encase herself in a heat shield of sorts hot enough to melt anything it touches. She also has the ability to throw fireballs over great distances in rapid succession, an ability she has dubbed "Pyro Shuriken." Pyrokenesis is very tiring, however, and Nova spend most of the day asleep, preferring to be active only at night. Nova herself is completely fireproof. Her body radiates heat and she never gets cold. As such, she constantly runs around without much clothing and barefoot no matter what the season. If not for modesty, Nova would probably run around naked all the time.

In addition to pyrokenesis, Nova has superhuman jumping capabilities, being able to clear a two story building in a single bound. She uses this ability to great effect when leaping from rooftop to rooftop. She also has excellent balance and can run across long spans of cable as thin as a rope with ease.

Nova's Cape/cloak is a special blend of Egyptian silk and Kashmir. It has many special enchantments embedded in it that make it fireproof, waterproof, and even bulletproof. Her clothes are also fireproof.

Recently, Nova has taken to using several gadgets (Courtesy of Tori) in combat to cut down the amount of energy she expends with her pyrokenetic powers, giving her significantly higher stamina. Her favorite is a grenade containing a blend of Napalm and plastic explosive capable of setting fire to an entire room, taking advantage of Nova's ability to psychically control the exact movements of any kind of fire, even if she didn't produce it herself.
