After my Voice Acting Workshop panel at BLFC this year, I had a number of people stay afterwards to chat with me while I packed up the equipment. This isn't unusual at all. I often have people who want to ask questions afterwards, and sometimes they just want to thank me for the fun time they had, which I always appreciate!
I was a little surprised when one pair of women stuck around to talk. Both of them had performed during the panel, and I had thought to myself that they had each done an exceptional job at their roles. I had half considered taking the time to go up to to them after the panel just to let them know how well I thought they had done. So I was pleased at being given that chance.
Except that before I got to tell them, they asked me something I hadn't expected. "What are you doing in October?"
I don't usually plan my schedule too far in advance, so I admitted that I didn't think I had anything in particular planned, though the entire month was a long time. They explained their question to me when they introduced themselves as the chair and co-chair of Arizona Fur Con, and asked if I would take my Voice Acting Workshop panel to their event.
And so I did. This was my very first time at Arizona Fur Con, and it was a unique event for me. AZFC was unlike the cons I frequented, being so small, very local, surprisingly full of very young attendees with their parents, and absolutely packed with panels. I was disappointed when I learned Voice Acting Workshop was scheduled to be the very last panel of the convention just before closing ceremonies, and that I was only given one hour instead of the usual two I prefer. But the room they put me in had to be the best recording environment I have ever had at a con, with irregular walls, fabric-lined surfaces, and a double-leveled ceiling that deadened all the reflections in the room. You can really hear it, I think. This is some of the best quality voice recordings I've ever gotten.
Still, being scheduled at the very end of a small con, I only had 12 people record, barely half of my usual number. Plenty of people got to go up multiple times, since I stuck around when no one kicked me out...until the chair actually DID kick me out after closing ceremonies. But one very cool thing about the event was that with the exception of khordkitty, everyone who arrived was new. I usually ask at the start of every panel who the veterans are, who's been to these panels before, and this was the first time no paws went up. That's really cool, and it was exciting to add new names to my Actors list. I'm now up to 452 individual furries I've recorded.
Anyway, another funny thing is that on the last day of the con, I got sick with some kind of nasal infection that lingered on after my return to California. So I've been taking time off work to recover (and not spread this thing), which gave me the opportunity to get right to work editing the audio. Which I did. And that's why I'm able to deliver these recordings less than a week after the conclusion of the panel, which I'm honestly not sure if I've ever done before. This is very likely the fastest turnaround I've ever had, and hopefully a pace I can keep up in the future.
Hope you enjoy these recordings! And thank you everyone who came to Voice Acting Workshop at AZFC2015!
