Following Mr. Smee, my first official an anthro-Hook. Even I am not so happy with the thought of a furry being the best pirate ever (you won't draw jesus as a fur either, would you?), I had to, because I plan a little crossover story.
Some details are important for me to explain, anyway. First, he is a lion - the ears are under the hat. Why a lion? He has to be rather intimidating by his height and appereance, so a a hunting dog would be ok, but c'mon, MOST furry characters are somewhat canine, so are mine. Gets boring by time.
It had to be a mayestic species. And a species being able to grow natural long hair. Besides, James Hook prefers being carried around neverland in a hand driven car, and that fits with the typical lion lazyness
The hair is natural, and long after the fashion of Charles II. The Disney version, and so the actual movie from 2004, shows that right. Unfortunately, after HOOK with Hoffmann, people remembered that huge wig, which played an important psychologic role - but was totally wrong in comparison with the original book.
The red-golden coulour code is mostly used for Hook, but also for all evil pirate captains. There are more red coats than eyepatches around there, so I skipped that. Charles II, whom James Hook "looked very alike", wore mostly dark, simply colours, as he was a reformist.
The hook. The attribute himself. It is meant to be a WEAPON. He "claws" with it! In most illustrations, the hook cannot even used for opening letters. I decided to give him a blade he can behead people with one strike.
Uhm yes, that's all....I know, i draw Hook to often, but hey, he's furry this time ^^

Good Mooooooooooooorning Neverland! Tie down the main mast, mateys. 'Cause here he is, the cunning kingfish, the bad barracuda! A man so deep, he's almost unfathomable. A man so quick, he's even fast asleep! Now let's give him a very big hand, 'cause he's only got one. I give you, the steel-handed stingray, Captain James Hook!
I can't remember its exact name, but the hook was meant for use with moving around cargo and such, but it was at the same time a large, sharp metal impliment that was bad to get stabbed with. Plus, with the overall nature of the deck of a ship, which had lots of things you might need to grab that a hook would work just fine on, it made a fair replacement for a hand, if you could afford to buy your own.
Also, Raptor Jesus. Enough said.

Actually if you followed the books, you'd have given him a leather mask that only showed his right eye and mouth. Hook had four fateful encounters with Peter in the originall envisioning.
The first we don't see as it happens before the story, which as we all know is where Peter cuts off Hook's right hand.
The second had Peter jab his sword into Hook's left eye.
The third battle had Peter throwning a lantern at the Captain's face, setting him on fire.
The third finally caused the demise of the good Captain.. although at that point, for all the maiming and disfigurement he went through, it was probably a blessing.
"Odd" how the more modern stories of Peter Pan never(-land) touch upon these aspects of the bullshit Captain Hook goes through, ain't it? ;3

It was from one of the earlier scripts.
Yeah, it was epic with Hook starting off handsome yet petty and turning slowly into a monster both inside and out.
All I could do was whistle when I read the original outline. Same story also called for the "Indians" of Tiger Lily's Clan having one of the Lost Boys scalped.
It was a lot... darker as originally intended.

Somehow I canot believe that a Victorian gentleman, who loved chidlren and their innocence, and who wanted Hook to be feminine at the beginning, wrote such things. Sounds like a typical perverted US goory "what if" script, and they just claimed it to be the original. PP was meant to be a play, for adults both and children. In the nineteen hundreds, you could not show such things...and noone came on such ideas, either.
