Chapter 37
“Who the heck are you?” demanded Brylie as she glared up at the large cat-like Pokémon.
“Luxio?” asked David in hesitation. This Pokémon looked close enough to Max’s electric cat, but much bigger with a longer tail and messier fur round its head. It had the same glaring yellow eyes.
“Luxray now,” grumbled the cat with an irritated flick of its tail. “I evolved on the way to this town. Max needs you! Now!”
“What’s going on?” asked Bailey with confusion leeching its way into her voice.
David turned away from the electric cat to explain to the girl. “Max’s Luxio evolved into a Luxray between Lumiose City and Camphrier Town. According to him, Max is in trouble and needs my help.”
“Well then,” exclaimed Bailey while flicking a long strand of brown hair out of her face. “What are we waiting for? Let’s go help him!”
“You hear her,” said David calmly. “We’re going to help Max. Luxray, lead the way.”
Without a word the large blue cat turned tail and ran straight for the opposite side of the town from which David and Bailey had entered. He continued to turn and stare accusingly at the trainers while he waited for them to catch up. David stayed in the rear and found himself carrying Scottie as they left behind the town and entered another forest.
“How much further?” grumbled Stevie as the Snivy began to lag behind.
“No clue,” said David as he scooped up the grass-lizard Pokémon as well.
Luxray bound past a fork in the road and straight to a nearby bridge. It skidded to a halt next to a man dressed in a karate uniform and a black belt. David brought up the rear and stared.
On the middle of the bridge was something that was rising and falling slightly. An obnoxious snoring sound rose around them and it took the boy a few moments to realize that the mound of flesh before him had a face.
“What on earth is THAT monstrosity?!” exclaimed Brylie in horror as the Bunnelby stopped short of running into it.
“It’s a Pokémon you nitwit,” grumbled Stevie from the boy’s arms.
David set down the Snivy and Scraggy and fished out his Pokédex from his bag. He aimed it at the large, snoring Pokémon preventing passage of the bridge.
“Snorlax,” said the Pokédex. “The Sleeping Pokémon.”
“It certainly loves to sleep,” muttered David.
“Indeed,” said the karate guy sadly. “Normally we could have dealt with it already, but since our only Poké Flute got taken from us, we can no longer get to Cyllage City from here.”
A loud squeak from Bailey halted further conversation. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was opening and closing rapidly.
“That’s a- It’s a- That’s!” the girl stammered in excitement. “Snorlax! I want it! I need it! I’m getting it! It’s so CUTE!”
Her steadily rising voice somehow managed to jump several octaves on the last word.
David raised an eyebrow at her.
“I’ve been wanting one since I got to meet the one Garnet caught in Kanto!” squealed the girl with her hands flapping in front of her as she bounced on the spot. “He was a fellow trainer I grew up with in Pallet Town. Both him and Cobalt where the worst of rivals at everything, but it was Garnet who won the overall Championship in the end.
“My very own chance at a Snorlax!”
David shared a glance with his Pokémon. Most of them seemed just as surprised by the outbreak from the girl as he was.
“Um, okay,” said the boy. He ignored Bailey who was still bouncing on the spot in excitement and addressed Luxray. “So, what happened to Max?”
“He came across the Snorlax and was planning to jump into the river to swim across,” grumbled the cat with an irritated flick of its tail. “I turned away for one moment and then he was gone. I heard him yell, but when I got back to where he’d been, all I found was his bag.” The Luxray nudged the bag beside him with a paw. “I need you to ask this trainer if he saw where Max went. My attempts at getting information failed and I figured an electric shock wouldn’t do much good if he couldn’t understand me in the first place.”
“Fair enough,” said David while straightening up and approaching the black belt. “Excuse me, did you see a boy take off somewhere through here? He would have had messy brown hair under a black and white cap with a yellow lightning bolt on the front. He’d also be wearing a white t-shirt with a blue over shirt and black sneakers.”
The man put a hand to his chin in contemplation. “Hmmm, I believe I did. I’m pretty sure he went running after a Furfrou screaming about stealing a Poké Ball. I’m pretty sure he cut through the bush in the direction of Route 6, Palais Lane. It’ll probably take him to the Parfume Palace.”
“Okay,” said David brightly. “Thanks.”
The boy returned to Bailey who was still in obvious full-on fangirl mode. Her Jigglypuff sighed from her heals as though this wasn’t the first time it had experienced this reaction.
“I’m going to try to find Max,” said David while grabbing her elbows to stop the girl from bouncing. “The karate guy told me he probably went down Palais Lane, so that’s the direction I’m going to head. Are you coming with me?”
“I’m going to say here,” said Bailey a little too fast. “I need this Snorlax! It’s a dream come true! Or I’ll try heading back to Camphrier Town to find the Poké Flute. That’s what I’ll do!”
“Okay,” said the boy with a nod. “I’ll see you later then.”
“Okie dokie!”
The boy let her go and turned back to his Pokémon. “Alright guys, and Luxray. We’re going to find Max and make sure he’s okay. Let’s go!”

Talon's Rules
1. All Pokemon (with maybe the exception of your starter if you so wish) must have been obtained within a Wonder Trade upon starting the game.
2. You have six slots in your party. You must have three pokemon you can interchange per slot. Pokemon from the same group slot can never be in your party at the same time. Only one per group slot at a time. You will have a grand total of eighteen pokemon as part of your team.
3. If a Pokemon should faint, it is considered "DEAD" and must be either released or placed in the PC. Once all three pokemon from a group slot have fainted, you can only use five pokemon at a time.
4. No buying items (with the exception of the Poke Balls used to aid you in your Wonder Trade). All items are found in the region (or if you are super lucky, you may be able to rely on a pokemon whose ability is Pick Up as I have). Buying TMs in the Shop is the exception.
I do not own any characters that may coincide with characters from the games.
