Halloween 2015 : Cynthia as Star Butterfly
Second of three Halloween cosplay pics, this one has Cynthia playing the part of the title character of Disney XD's 'Star vs the Forces of Evil'
As mentioned before Cynthia has a fascination with insane characters, which led to her doing a version of Harley Quinn in a previous getup. Star Butterfly for a good chunk of her series, fits the bill perfectly, hence the cosplay. Cynthia is getting into her role pretty good. Maybe too good. I still don't know how she got the wand to glow like that.
As mentioned in the previous pic, this isn't intended to be a perfect rendition of Star's outfit, but rather a character of mine cosplaying her, so there are bound to be imperfections--mostly intentional.
Technical:
I started the backdrop for this one after finishing the inks in Inkscape, working from a pencil sketch I blocked out Cynthia's figure then built the backdrop around her, a typical suburban-esque neighborhood much like that depicted in the SvtFoE TV show.
Once I had that down, I decided to make another attempt at a night scene by starting with a canvas of dark blue (visible at the upper left corner), and blocking out the major objects like the house, garage and fence line. Using the pencils on a separate layer as a guideline, I added in the details, mostly with a lasso tool, creating a mostly outline-less background that lets the foreground character stand out.
Once the weekend rolled around I switched to doing the rest of the work on a Tigerdile stream on 10/24, where I added Cynthia and proceeded to color her in, using a pic of Star as color reference, and positioning the highlights and shadows according to an offscreen light source. The overall image isn't as dark as the Harley pic, but seeing as the cartoon this pic is inspired by isn't particularly dark even at night, I guess I can let it slide.
Pencil on bristol, vector-inked with Inkscape, and exported to Micrografx Picture Publisher 10 for color+composition with and digital paint of the backdrop. Six layers excluding attributions, 156MB at full uncompressed size.

After thinking about it for awhile, I concluded that she doesn't express a particular preference for species--the characters she's fascinated by are human, after all. Being that my character group is designed to be interactive with the characters of other creators, I'm sure she'd be at lest willing to hang out.
