Simon of Bedford
Presenting: Simon of Bedford, now in color for your enjoyment. To paraphrase the sketch version:
Created for a pen-and-paper game that passed through several editions and is now on indefinite hiatus, Simon was the party's front-line fighter. Shipwrecked in a faraway land and trying to return home with finances for his expecting wife, he also became the group's voice of reason, the 'face' for when diplomacy was needed, and- most of all- the group's extraordinarily-talented cook, provisioner, and sommelier.
In case it isn't obvious, he was also my love letter to the Burmecians of Final Fantasy IX. In the campaign he made a weapon of his wrecked ship's notched anchor cable (see: Spiked Chain) but is depicted here wielding his more preferred weapon, his wife's old grain fauchard.
I've been behind on coloring all the pictures I want to color, but curiously it's been the more complicated designs that tend to fall into place the best. With respect to the October weather (and recalling that several of the campaign's major battles took place after dark) I decided I'd try my hand at a night piece, and I'm quite fond of how the scenery came out... even if, in conjunction with his coloration, you might mistake Simon for a villain at a glance.
