Okay, I really don't know anything about doing comics and I'm sure it shows. In fact I'm not really alll that into comics. They're okay. When I'm reading a good one, all I can think is "Man, this would make such a great animated series/movie." And I wish it was one. In fact, I always wished this comic right here could be a traditional animated short. That's how I see it, and how it was intended, but since that's nigh impossible, I finally decided I wanted to create a visual story so badly, in Some form or other, that I finally began doing a comic.
As a short, it would've come across as a mix between classic Chuck Jones, Ralph Bakshi, and a little bit of "Family Dog" thrown in.
It took me FOREVER to finish the whole comic. I started on it during the interesting time after which I finally found out about furries, and that I was one of them, but before I'd ever had a computer or gotten online. During this time, I was prone to drinking a lot of wine and listening to oldies at night and crying a lot.
Scuzzlie was partially based on a sweet but tragic little runt doggie named Spaz. I loved that little guy so much and he was kind of a loser at being a dog. He got sick and died shortly after reaching adulthood, before ever getting to mate with a lady doggie. Not that they didn't wheel around and bite the hell out of him whenever he'd try to show interest anyway. Still makes me sad as fuck to think about losing him, and the sad, miserable little life he lived.
Anyway, I saw a lot of myself in him, and in some ways, Scuzzlie is a combination of him, and me when I'm feeling my lowest. There's a LOT more story to this guy. This comic is supposed to just be a humorous introduction, basically. I kind of have to be feeling low and lousy to feel like working on this comic, and I guess I'm feeling better these days than I have in the past. Having become a fur, and found some good, close friends has helped me a lot, but I guess the trade off is I work on Scuzzlie a lot less.
