Many people have asked me many times where I got my name, "Claw MacKain". Well, it's high time I did this to end having to repeat myself once and for all!
I redrew and upgraded the appearance of an extremely old character of mine that was made back in 1991 when I was only 9 years old and living in the East Texas city, Lufkin. Yes, I was drawing way back then.
I created a super hero team, then called the Heroic Cat Pack. A few years later I looked at the name and figured it was a bit childish, so I changed the team name to the Cat League. Although I created various characters, both heroes and villains, one was my absolute most favorite, the leader of the Cat League, Daniel Claw AKA Claw.
The story behind this black haired lion is that he and his father are explorers and archeologists in the years of the 3000s. They were exploring a mountaintop and came across a hidden and abandoned spaceship. Inside they found a weird alien artifact. When touched it emitted an unusual energy that mutated Claw's and his father's human form into a humanoid animal form that they had the most contact with or their personality most resembled. Slowly the energy from the artifact's energy seeped out into the world doing the same to various people while others remained untouched.
Claw was already a mutant having various energy based attacks. Now he was even more of an outsider due to his new looks.
Back when I first made Claw and his allies and enemies I knew nothing of furries or even heard of them. I just thought that a humanoid animal would be cool.
Years later, when I was 15 and living on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, my first time I was online ever I was surfing the net looking at various things when I finally bumped into a furry site. I don't remember which one. But I was both surprised and happy to find furries on the net. Naturally I liked seeing the work I saw. Some of which was by
FredGDPerry and
skunkworks. ^^;
I started playing around with this Windows 95's paint program, too. Drawing by mouse when I'm at the computer and continuing to draw by hand when I was in my room or at school.
I sort of considered Claw as myself as he was such a favorite character of mine, so I started signing my mouse art with Claw while my hand art still bore my regular signature.
Later while I was 17 and then living in Germany I found Skunked Productions.
DrakeFenwick was on Skunked hosting a SMT MUCK there. He also had a character guideline for submitting characters to this MUCK. I copied the guideline and even printed it out to think about it. I answered all the questions of the guideline and even planned to use my own looks for the base of this new Claw. That's where these six pics came in. Claw was made a lion based off of the fact that I called myself Claw for so long from this very Claw, who was a lion.

Upon coming up with Claw's parents, Lando and Lonna, the last name of MacKain was just made up and finally applied to Claw, who became Claw MacKain, my fursona.
As for the liger aspect of Claw... blame my brother. While I was drawing characters for my Over World series' title Everglades, I asked my brother what he wanted his character, the brother of Claw, to be. And so, Long MacKain, the black tiger came in. And so, how can a lion and a black tiger be brothers? Lando, the father, was made into a lion, and Lonna, the mother, was made into a black tiger.
And there's your whole answer and history of how I became Claw MacKain.
Oh, I forgot one other thing. If you look at Claw's right eye, you'd noticed a black diamond formation in his fur. My fursona has the same black diamond, but his only appears when he's horny, perverted, or evil. That diamond was taken from this Claw. FYI, though, the left eye's formation is the radiation symbol.
