Ye Olde Magic Shop Visitor pt. 4 (Story in Description)
PLEASE IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO CHECK OUT THE SHORT STORY TAKE A MOMENT TO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IN THE COMMENT SECTION BELOW. IT WOULD MEAN A LOT TO ME.
Surprised you jump back in shock and pull your ankle out of the plant’s grasp just as it begins to tighten its grip. You turn to see more vinelike tendrils coming out of a pot sitting in the corner. Just what the hell is going on? “Phillip! No! Bad! Not the customers!” came another voice as a figure entered the room quickly. You stare in disbelief as the owner of the voice scolds the potted plant and the vinelike tendrils pull back into the pot. She is an ocelot female. She had medium length brown hair that changed to red at half length to the tips. Just like the two felines before, she was wearing a robe. You gasp in surprise as she turns to you. “I apologize. It’s near his feeding time.” she said with a slight smirk. “Alice. What have we told you about leaving your plant in places and not telling anyone?” asked Marilyn crossly. “What? You didn’t have any fortune telling, readings or séances scheduled for today so I figured it would be a quiet place.” said Alice in reply. You watch the pair bicker for a moment before a realization hits you. They are arguing about something real. That plant that tried to grab you is real. Marilyn’s clairvoyance is real. That potion you saw in Sabrina’s hands was real. This isn’t just a Halloween themed store. They’re wearing witches robes for a reason. They’re real witches. A feeling of dread overcomes you as you think back to the feeling you had before you entered the building. What if that really was the last bit of sunlight you would ever see? You have to get out of here.
Slowly you take a step back. Your knees feel like they will buckle at any moment. You thank your lucky stars that they don’t as you take another step. The doorway is just behind you. As long as they continue to argue; they’re not focused on you. You just need to remain calm and quiet and you should get away unnoticed. Then you feel it. Something was rubbing at your leg. You freeze in your tracks and slowly look down at what you already know to be there. It was like a snake. Encircling your leg and getting ready to pull tight was the tendril of the plant you’d seen before. The ocelot did say it was near its feeding time, and apparently you’re still on the menu as far it’s concerned. A shout of effort leaves your throat as you once again wrench yourself free of the plant’s grasp and turn toward the door. You’re not going to waste a precious second more here. Your heartbeat echoes in your ears as you break into a sprint toward the door you entered from.
Thoughts flit through your mind as you make your break for safety. The items in the shop are classified by body part. What if they were planning to harvest some from you and were lulling you into a false sense of security before they strike? Why had you thought it was a good idea to follow Celeste? Speaking of the bat girl, you hadn’t seen her since Marilyn showed up. “Was she in on it too?” you ask in thought as you quickly scan the room on your way though. Then you see her. She is standing behind the register with a surprised look on her face. But that’s not what you’re focused on. She is wearing a black robe too. So she was one of them as well. Your only thoughts are on escape now as you stare forward. The footsteps of Marilyn and Alice entering the room are behind you only add haste to your own steps. You could swear the room is longer than it had been previously. The door stood no chance as you slam into it and it opens by force. The sun was almost set, and the alley was beginning to look ominous. But that is of no importance as you sprint off down the path between buildings. As you round the corner you graze another figure. You almost lose your balance but continue on toward safety. What was it that you bumped? You don’t know. You don’t dare to look back.
And here we have the conclusion to the little second person perspective narrative story I wrote for Halloween. I would LOVE to receive some comments to let me know what you all thought about it as it was an experiment. I've never written something in the second person before. I think it turned out pretty well. The art as usual was done by my good friend
wrytergirl and perfectly captures the moment while the pair of friends are arguing.
