And since oozes are so easy to draw here's easily the most iconic of the bunch. Affectionately nicknamed the "Sewer Sweeper" or the "Dungeon Janator" by players this well infamous encounter has haunted many players due to its insidious nature.
Just as an example here's how I put it to use in one of my games:
as you round the corner of the dungeon your torchlight reveals something up ahead. A skeleton, some kind of humanoid but at this range it's hard to tell what species it is for sure, floats a foot off the ground at an odd angle. Close to its outstretched arms and indeed floating all about it are daggers, coins and other metalic items.
Fighter : I'm going to rush it.
DM (AKA me) Running headlong at the slowly approaching skeletal figure, mere feet from it and too close to suddenly stop you notice that the torch light is reflecting off a translucent, nearly transparent membrane of sorts. Any attempt to halt yourself is aided by running headlong into it with a lout SPLAT! Roll a saving throw. [b/]
[b] Fighter : *rolls a 5 on a d20* Failed
DM you suddenly go numb from head to toe. You're still awake but incapable of movement as you start to be drawn into the wall of standing liquid. To your horror you notice that the hair on your arms starts to sizzle as if burning
From there the other party members had to defeat the creature without hitting him and then had to heal him from acid burns all over his body. Fun stuff right?
