I'm not quite sure I'd call that as rude, necessarily, although I can see how it might be seen as such. I've heard it said that womens' favorite hobby is talking, and I know from my own experience that men can find many topics women talk about to be tiresome and boring, leaving the men wondering why they're there in the first place and maybe even if they can get away with gnawing a leg off and escaping. Henry's pretty much taking the least rude way of copping-out of the socializing.

Also, he didn't tell Hilde that he was married when he had a relationship with her back in their college days...

Back in their college days he wasn't married and had yet to meet his wife to be.

I get the impression that Eliza's really, really bored. She might just be scoping out Our Heroines for ears to chatter off. Or to determine if Hilde is worth turning into a mavis enderby. Or she may go for the gusto and become their archnemesis, concocting screwball plans to be generally annoying and snoopy, but of no real threat because we're syndicated and Status Quo is God.
