In today's episode, the soldier-servant of the late (?) General Sir Guido Fawkes is questioned very closely, both in the literal sense and otherwise, in the Master of Elfhame's office. We get some colour as to the Battle of Skull Forest, and the last moments of the Eastern Expeditionary Force during the rebellion.
To a certain extent, Fawkes' actions are based on those of certain Russian generals that found themselves in similar situations during the first few weeks of Operation Barbarossa. Many did not make it out alive, and the few that did, for the most part, ended up before the firing squad (vide Mikhail Kirponos, Dmitry Pavlov).
I've just last night ordered up two drawings from
tegerio, an activity I recommend to one and all. One of them is directly connected with this story, the other loosely connected. Will make available when ready.
