There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.
Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late.
Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again.
Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving.
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.
Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.
Bandits at 8 O'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns
Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live,
Aces high.
Little known fact about me, I fucking love Spitfires.

Interesting. My Dad loves airplanes and flying, and I love old vehicles of all kinds--especially cars, but also old airplanes, old tractors, locomotives, and all kinds of military machinery. I especially love the screaming sound of the German Stuka dive-bombers when they attacked (sorry, I know you're British), which makes them probably my favorite war planes.
Oh I know about the dive-bombers, aha. Coventry used to get them, including the doodlebugs and all kinds of fly hell. XD
I was raised in Coventry, born and true, so I know the history, seen the damage, we're still picking bombs out of the ground here and there, to say we were truely nuked back in the day is an understatement. XD Its why I have to laugh when they dredge up WW2 shells from the Thames in London, its like, oh...no biggie...but they shut the place down until its done with. Aha.
I love old everything, especially vehicles and aircraft. My favourite plane is a Spitfire hands down, my blood races when I hear the engines fly over. AAAAAAAA! The other aircraft I had a huge thing for was the Vulcan. Got to see it one last time before it was grounded. Every 2 years in Farnborough we get the Air Shows fly right over my family house, its awesome. The Red Arrows once came SO LOW they dipped wings at us in the garden. AAA! But since an accident a few ago, rules have kind of restricted the aircraft to mostly over the airfield. :( Still, we get cheeky Typhoons and F35 which I now have a HUUUUUUUUUGE boner for. XD
Sorry to ramble, but we get Apache's go over routinely, but at the air shows you see them do all kinds of things, almost touching the ground, mobilizing around targets and watching how the targeting systems work, omfg...those beasties are beautiful babies.
