In the Zanskar valley, while trekking through the Indian Himalayas. We had to go at a forced speed to complete the normally 9-10 day (for a westerner) track in only 7. I had no proper equipment or any previous high altitude experience either, so it was probably the hardest thing I've done in my life so far - but worth every suffering.
