I had this problem to begin with when I first started using canvases, and it depends on the canvas as well as the pen :B
I use twin tip Letraset Pro markers - they give a really solid black, and the nibs are really hard wearing. Usually though, a primed canvas will give a darker black, and a slightly nicer finish than unprimed, or matte canvas ;]

Oh man, these are so awesome.. I hope I make it on teh commission list someday! They would be something Id be so proud to put up on my wall. Theres something so definite and official about anthro art on canvas. Something that says 'so what its anthro, this is ART' And thats what I like about these- you're makin me get thinking about painting now, to try that. Drawings arent proud and out there like paint. Paint has presence and attitude! YES
thanks dude, I'm really glad you dig it! I've been doing canvas stuff for years - longer than I've been doing furry art, so I just kinda mixed up the two styles, and it came out like this haha. I felt like it was something different, kinda unique because I don't think I've seen stuff like it.
Also, I thought it'd be pretty sick to have some form of furry artwork that can be put on the wall without people asking about the throbbing member featured :B
