Here's a snap of my first Garage-Kit. I did this one for Anthrocon this year. He's 14 inches tall, cast resin and I re-worked his original pouch and "Sam-Brown" for this wrestling sling.

Ahh, that explains some of it. I stayed at the table all day Saturday. I figure MOST of the people who'r gonna attend the Con for one day will be there Saturday so I try to be at the table the full day. And, as fer the Art Show, I'll bet we bumped into each other several times and didn't know it. (yer not the guy who threw an axe at me are you?)
You're not the first one to notice my Minotaur feet. But, that design concept is not entirely my own. Someone, (I'll find out who!!) did a cover illustration and interrior line drawings for a Thomas Burnett Swann story about a Minotaur that I still have but can't remember the title of either (and I'll find that out too!) Anyway, that's where I first saw a Minotaurs feet drawn like that and it make perfect sense to me at the time!
Wow! I completely forgot about that too! Yeah, I wonder if anyone will do a drawing of that rabbit with flames shootin'out his ass and his cheeks melting all over his big feet! Sorry for the misunderstanding. I can see as plain as anyone you're a Dragon!!! (just KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDING!!!!)
Sorry, I missed this posting! This is a scratch built Garage-Kit I sculpted and cast over three years ago. I've been planing on posting a pic of the original kit but, with all the other artwork I'm tryin' to stay on top of(and the fact that most furries don't have the cash to pay for a kit like this-let alone be able to build it) it's not a big priority. My next one is gonna be more Si-Fi (if I can find the time for it) and, hopefully, that'll sell better!!
I've been wanting to have a try at sculpting for a long time, but i just can't find the mterials (so i make due with 3D instead). How much do you charge people for these? Most furries may not have enough cash, but i'm sure they are ready to give everything away if you start doing garage kits of their characters:)
Unlike the days when I had to search all over hell's half acre and send away for materials, a lot of the bigger, better art-supply stores sell all the sculpting and casting materials you need to do Garage kitting now. If you have any Pearl art-supply stores near you, they have most of what you'll need! And as for what the public will buy: there's no practical way in hell to do a resin-cast kit of someones character and make any money on a one shot basis, unless they aren't really Furries and actually have money! I've noticed that a few sculptors are doing some character commissions on a "one-shot", basis using Sculpy, and that's a possibility, but I've no idea how much they're charging for their work. And another thing: none of the explicit sexual stuff they're doing on this one-shot basis is gonna last very long. Face it, once the buyer's had it for as long as they want it,or can keep it, it's gotta be destroyed of disposed of in some other way because of its "content". If yer interested in the one-shot process of doing characters that's probably the BEST way to make money! But, if yer thinkin' of casting resin kits for people to build, a whole different set of priorities comes into play!!!
Sadly, they don't have any of these stores where i live, so i have to go to this place called "the artist union", where they sell all the top quality stuff. And yeah, i was talking about one-shot sculpey stuff, and i've heard it was the best way to make money, but i just don't have experience with that kind of stuff. And if i had an explicitly sexual thing, i'd never throw it away eventually, i would rather go buy a safe:P
Opps, sorry for the slow turnaround! I can't remember exactly, but the original sculpt of this kit took about two weeks. That was the fun part! Casting the kit in resin was a BITCH, and the subsequent sales didn't warrant doing another kit like it. This fellow in this pic was modified from the original kit and I've been tempted to do another one but, since then, I've done a nude of him and that's enough!!
*Laughs!* Well, when I did this guy nobody sold "kits", except maybe for small jewelry type casting. You had to buy or order the materials from places that supplied industry or the movie special effects houses and, it was allllllllllll expensive!! I think there are several outfits that make "kits", with materials for specific types of casting but you gotta check around your local art supply stores to see if they stock them or if you have to order them. One company I've used for the molding silicone is called SMOOTH ON, and if you google them there might be information on where they have supplies near you.
