For some pieces, I use much more paint than for others. For this piece, I was working on Bristol board, which doesn't handle a lot of paint very well.. I can paint on it, but if I use a lot of water the paper likes to buckle, so I usually paint on top of markers when I work on bristol board. With illustration board, I can do the whole thing in acrylic paints, because it can handle a lot of water. I use primarily markers for pieces on bristol board, like badges and some of my simple background pieces (like this one). The bristol board is very good with handling markers and preventing bleeding, as well, so unless I have accidentally overfilled a marker (which has happened once or twice), I don't typically have to worry about more than very minor bleeding. If I do bleed outside a line, I can usually touch it up with a little extra inking, or some white acrylic paint, as well.
Soon I will be doing some pieces that are mostly or all fluid acrylics, so those videos should show my painting process =D

I'm sure the paper makes a big difference on how the copics blend together. I've also noticed that fuller/newer markers blend better than older/drier ones. I use Strathmore smooth bristol board for most of my marker work. I do scan the finished artwork, and then I do cleanup in Photoshop.
