OH HEY, IT'S BEEN. A YEAR. And my Kanto pokemon leader series finally continues. At least now I'm halfway through with my random picks. Four more to go. And I just could not find a solution for this gym leader's famous narrow anime eyes, haha.
Brock, the rock type gym leader. Onix will always be my favorite rock pokemon because, giant horned stone snake. And because it's a fact that about 3/4 of my favorite pokemon actually suck in battle. :c It's enough to throw a water balloon at this thing for a one-hit-KO.
Except when your first starter was charmander, then you'll learn to hate Brock with a passion. And meeting a lot of rock types inside caves in the beginning before you get to catch any types which are good against them. Or at least any which are good against Misty's water type which follow after the cave. You choose the fire starter in that first game, you play level difficult.
And that's the only honest way to earn a Lvl 100 charizard, so screw you.

I was thinking more like

(Also I never really saw Brock as African guy, more like a brown-ish Asian.)

I never realized that... Heh, first gen games truly forged players in skilled trainers: if you didn't learn fast, you couldn't advance! Think about the legendary birds, the Victory Road and the insane league, Mewtwo... the burned building where you found the key for Blaine's gym and the Safari Zone... there were things you just had to smash your head against until you could solve them.
Such a thing, by the way, but to a lesser extent, happens in crystal version, where they removed mareep from the game: if you pick cyndaquil then there's no way to deal efficiently with your rival's starter until late game, where you find a thunderstone to evolve that eevee Bill gave you (unless you got lucky and found an elekid in the misterious egg). The only thing you can do is to use a ghastly with curse and quick claw, hoping for a first hit.
Other than that, though, fire starters have always been broken XD
Onix is cool! And Steelix too, he's a giant horned stone snake that grins!

Haha, I chose cyndaquil in Crystal because I'm a hopeless fire starter trainer. xD Except from what I can remember, Pokemon Red was still the more frustrating game for me in general. In Crystal, my number one frustrating trainer was that very final one after you went through everything, Trainer Red. I lost many times before I won against this silent guy, lol.
Ah, I'm a fire starter trainer too! And yes, that game was almost tragic in its difficulty.
I remember the first time I reached Mount Silver with my friends, and our global "wtf!" when we got confronted by a lv 80 pikachu. Though I think most was due to our young age. I recently finished crystal again, and with my pokemon at little more than lv 60 he went down at the first try XD (oh, and I did sent a Onix against his pikachu. I always want an onix before the first gym).

If I remember right, it was his snorlax that finished me off every time. :'D I started to hate normal types. Every time you fight an enemy with a normal type, they seem to have a strong attack effective against any pokemon you send against them.
"Typhlosion, use fire blast!" Meh kind of damage. Snorlax used earthquake, one hit KO.
"FUCK YOU! Suicune, use hydropump!" Meh kind of damage. Snorlax used thunder, one hit KO. "FUCK YOU!"

I was thinking of him from the original blue and red https://i.ytimg.com/vi/muopBtfgMSk/hqdefault.jpg
Of course... It would have been hilarious if you drew him with that pixlated face XD
