Hiddson: Hello and welcome once again to Bandits Breakdown! Your one stop shop for all things Las Vegas Bandits, Brett Hiddson along with Terrence Thursday, Issabelle Holt on the sidelines in Baltimore, where the Bandits take to the road to continue a strong season, Terry.
Thursday: You're right Brett, another big challenge on the road against a Ponies team that can be just as explosive as any in the league. Starting with their Quarterback, Aspen Redfield, The sophomore deer phenom continues his aerial dominance posting up the second most passing yards this year. Defense should have their paws full just trying to keep his passing game in check especially with standout runners Austin Pool and Roderick Meadows with him in the backfield to keep balance. But the Bandits have stepped up to the challenge before, just a matter to see if they can do it once more.
Hiddson: And a big game standings wise to do it. With the New York Titans losing to the California Dons. A win will have the Bandits alone at the top of the United Conference. A great improvement to last years mediocre 6-10 record.
*pregame video showing the John (Alligator) and Kyle (Alligator) Gradkowski hugging it out before the game*
Hiddson: Always a great showing when family reunites. The Gradkowski twins no exception, Though John seemingly has the better standings being a starter while Kyle is on special teams. Still always good to see instances like that, As with the Carsons earlier in Fargo. Onto the game... First Quarter action, Redfield looking for Lyndon Griggs, but deflected and Intercepted by Corey Lewis!
Thursday: Nice work jumping the route in time to not only disrupt the pass, as Redfield was hurried to throw it sooner than expected. Lewis just had to get in there and tip the pass away from Griggs to himself for the pick.
Hiddson: And with great field position the Bandits would respond the way you want them to with a big play! Stapler on the ensuing posession looking checks down to Blaine Vernon and he makes a nice move and has a head of steam down the sideline one man to beat and dives into the endzone! Touchdown Desert Desperadoes! His first receiving touchdown of the year! Bandits up 7-0.
Thursday: Vernon making his best Terry Paige impersonation and he'll find more time on the field with plays like that.
Hiddson: Redfield not wanting to be outdone after throwing the first pick. Drives his team down the field. Cultivating on a beautiful strike to John Gradkowski for the touchdown. To knot it up 7 all. (7-7) Next posession Stapler and the Bandits nearing the red zone, finding Stephen Harris to get them goal situation to end the first quarter. However... 3rd and goal Stapler gets Sacked by J.J. White. Bandits would have to take a field goal.
Thursday: Yeah not much of a chance there, by the time he finished his drop back, White was there to greet him. Better to take a sack than to throw it for intentional grounding or a pick.
Hiddson: That would get the Ponies offense going and they would run a clinic on this drive, getting Pool involved in the pass game and the running game... a good dart to Minten to keep the chains moving. A facemask penalty would also help the Ponies creep into the red zone and Redfield caps this drive with another touchdown pass to Gradkowski. Ponies take the lead 14-10. But Stapler wants to go into the second half on a better note and get that lead back. Several passes and runs for Terry Paige, Viridi-Aqua chipping in for some key grabs and to cap it off. Terry “Turn the” Paige rolls in for the touchdown! His sixth rushing TD of the season, 17-14 Desert Desperadoes.
Thursday: Great drive to respond to the Ponies last score to end the half with the lead. Getting Paige and RVA invlved to keep the Ponies standout defense off balance and it would serve them well going into the second half.
Hiddson: And the Bandits would never look back. 2nd and 9 in the third quarter, Stapler draops back to pass.. pump fakes.. finds Roy down field and caught! 35 yards and that's his seventh touchdown grab of his bright career. 24-14 Bandits!
Thursday: Great play by Stapler here, selling the pump fake to freeze the safety long enough to get Roy for the long TD throw.
Hiddson. Ponies feeling the pressure and helped thanks to “What can Justin Brown do for Bandit Nation?” get the huge sack to get leading to a three and out ensuing punt for Baltimore... low snap.. and Blocked! Lewis Groetzer got the perfect jump getting by the blockers and dives for the block just as Cochran was getting the kick set. Bandits a chance to pour it on... 1st and goal on the ensuing posession. Stapler sneaks it in for the score and it's 31-14 Bandits. The Bandits would later add a field goal and that would be your final score 34-14 Bandits improve to 8-2 overall and 5-0 on the road. The Defense doing a fantastic job to keep the Ponies frustrated and silent on the scoreboard in the second half, Terry.
Thursday: All thanks to the pressure up front with Justin Brown's big day. 7 tackles and a Sack to his name while the secondary bent but never broke down to the Ponies big play chances. Never can underestimate the importance of the Offensive and Defensive lines that start and disrupt plays for your team.
And with the big guys up front it made plenty of opportunities for the Bandits and the numbers are very good to hear for fantasy football players. Sylvester Stapler ends with 13-19 completions for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns passing. He also rushed for 16 yards and a touchdown. Terry Paige had the biggest game of the bunch with 21 carries for 87 yards on the ground and a touchdown run, while continuing his presence in the passing game with 92 yards on 5 catches. Stephen Harris with 3 catches for 94 yards, no score though, and Roy Viridi-Aqua continuing his great rookie campaign with 50 yards on just three catches and a touchdown.
Now we'll take a short break but when we return, Issabelle Holt will cover the reports and and pressers for the team and we'll take a look for the next match up against the Abilene Lancers.
