Now I feel the need to go watch some old cartoons...

I always loved how Clampett would take a lame gag and make it funny. The doberman pincher isn't much of a joke in itself, but Clampett makes it funny by making Duberpuss a happy maniac enthusiastically running amuck. Another example- Porky and his nephew, Pinky, at the beach. Pinky asks if he could bury Unca' Porky in the sand, and then backs up a dump truck and buries him alive under a ton of the stuff. Not so funny in the telling, but hilarious on the screen thanks to Clampett's directorial audacity. Or Porky as Columbus, sailing to the New World by the stars, which just happen to form a big directional arrow with the word "America" in it (and at this point Porky turns to the camera and chuckles, "Boy, I sure could mess up a lot of history by turning around and going back, couldn't I, folks?"). If you're doing tributes to characters that deserve to be better known, do one about the sea serpent from Clampett's KRISTOPHER KOLUMBUS, JR. Pretty please?...
