Iris was getting revenge, not necessarily becoming a maverick. She didn't snap and started killing people. She just went after Zero for snuffing out her brother. In which he beat the breaks off her ass for it.

Yeah, I know, but they were originally conceived by reploid scientists to be one reploid, but they couldn't resolve the differences in programming and personalities they both had. When Zero killed Colonel, the loss of her other half drove her crazy.
