Do you have a feeling when you're going to die? Does everything just go quicker or slower, or does the day you die feel like just any other day? Now that's a question I am asking myself. I need to get out of here wherever here is.
“Hey, Mike! Ya heading out?” my dad calls out form the den.
“Yeah, dad. Need anything?” I ask getting my keys and jacket.
“No.” dad calls.
“Okay! Well see ya, dad.” And with that I head out into the cold damp night. For most people that sounds like miserable time to be out, but for me there is no better time.
The world I live in now is a strange place. Nothing is black and white anymore. The world is now full of shades of gray. The world used to be so simple. It used to be if you had a tail you were an animal and if not your were a human. But when the first genetically enhanced humans were unveiled everything changed. Suddenly what was human had to be reexamined, but being different isn't too bad. I would know, being a genomorph myself. I get the best of both worlds. I get the safety of being a human with the freedom of being a fur. That is we call these new genetically enchanted humans.
I smile and decide not to take the car tonight. The weather is too prefect. I close my eyes and feel a warmth down my spine and a tearing sound as two holes are ripped in my jacket. “Crap, I forgot about that.” I say out-loud to no one in particular wondering how I am going to explain the two holes in my new shirt.
I quickly brush away the thought as I extend my new wings and feel my skin turn to feathers under my clothes. My fingers turn to talons. My mouth elongates and hardens, turning into a beak. My eyesight enhances to that of a falcon.
I smile and let out a squaw as I grab my jacket with one of my taloned hands. I start running down the street and jump into the air. My powerful back wings yank me off the ground as I soar off into the cool autumn night.

“Spotted him, sir. He is moving east.” a solider says into a radio. He shivers some, and sets down the night vision binoculars. He relaxes some knowing his job is done. Now it is Charlie team's turn. He smiles, lighting a cigarette and muttering “Lucky me I get to wait out here in this miserable excuse for a night while those furs are waiting at the base. But hey, at least the the dogs will get some exercise.”

I smile even more as spin mid-air, having forgot how much fun it was to fly. I take a deep breath feeling the cold air enter my lungs. I feel like nothing can go wrong as I fly over some sandy plateaus. But this feeling does last long as I suddenly feel as though something is amiss. Then I see it. A bullet is whizzing tough the air. I let out a loud squaw as I feel it hit me and feel something warm run of of me. “Blood. Oh God.” I think to myself.
I try to flap and pull up but when I do I forget that my other wing was holding my wound. I feel a snap in my wing and I start free falling. I think to myself “This is how it ends. I die because some dumb hunter mistook me for an animal.” Then it all goes black.

The German Shepherd in a soldier's uniform smiles as me takes the shot and watches as the bird starts falling. He smiles and says, “Okay, boys. I nailed one. Now fetch.” The two other German Shepherds quickly dart of to retrieve the bird. The one who gave the order smiles and relaxes.
The leader then picks up a radio and says “Phase one is complete.”
