Take a look at Sunwayman, Olight, Jet beam and Fenix. All of them are great bargains for what you get. Much more durable and better quality light compared to the LED lights available in stores.
One notable exception is the Duracell 1,500 lumen light at Costco. Ugly beam shape but bright as heck, focusing and has Costco's warranty.

I buy 3-cell Maglights and put aftermarket LED bulbs in them. Bright as I need, and heavy enough for defensive purposes if so needed. I just had to stop buying Duracells to power them, though, because I'm tired of having to throw the lights out because the batteries leaked...
Energizers! They're my go-to for applications where rechargeable batteries aren't an option (like flashlights and security cameras), and I also buy their Recharge line for cameras and flashes.
I looked at an 8-pack of Rayovac AA Alkalines at the store last night. Even though the packaging was babbling about a 10-year shelf life, the batteries inside were leaking so badly I could barely read them. Yet another fine product of the Workers' Paradise. I think now I should have taken a picture of them, but I did the Monk thing and handed them to a clerk.

Well, more importantly, if a laser isn't powerful enough to have any recoil, then it likely isn't delivering enough energy on target to be effective. chemically driven kinetic weapons have a tad bit amount of start energy, but what makes them so effective is that nearly all of it goes into kinetic work. Lasers eat a lot of energy into light, but that light can't easily do much work at the target.
