I get it now. However, if the question is not too bold to ask, does the contractions start after the
"drop" and the "breaking water" or does this very in women? I am more curious now for role playing sake and for when I get around to finishing my first short story.

From reading a bunch of books about this, and maybe a thousand birth stories, I can safely say it varies. A lot. But what usually does happen is that water breaks after contractions start. And yet on the other hand, sometimes water never breaks, and the baby is born with it intact, though from what I've read, that's pretty rare.
The only hard and fast rule about labor is that, like pregnancy, it will end. When it will end, and what happens in the meantime, tends to follow certain patterns, but it's ultimately unpredictable.

My wife's waters broke a good 12 hours before any serious contractions started (she needed a hormone drip to get things going properly in the end) and at that point, our son had been dropped/engaged for a good couple of weeks by that point.
It was fairly obvious when he dropped because she suddenly went from only being able to eat a few bites without getting full to inhaling the contents of the fridge.
