Endless Realms bestiary - Hag
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
I was asked to create a hag creature this block, but wasn't given any specific art direction. I know there are some really awesome hag designs and creature concetps out there, but I wanted to give the team something they could work with easily, so I stuck to the "classic" hag - the crone, the witch, the mystic. Is she a creature of death and decay, or vast wisdom in disguise? I wanted her to be hideously ugly, as expected of a hag, but with enough ambivalence that she could pass as either a horribly malevolent creature, or a surprisingly benign one, depending on what the team requires her to be.

*chuckles* Makes me think of the tumor alchemist build in Pathfinder XD A friend made a character with a little sentient tumour that could pop out of his body and he could control :V
The idea is that... well, the team didn't tell me what kind of hag they wanted, so I tried to make one that could be a "children-eating fathomlessly evil witch", OR a "scary-looking but actually benign and wise old crone."

It's a hag that's for sure. I'd want her to be a mystic, but tells half the party members that the other half is plotting to kill them, while the other half is told about some treasure that could lead to many great things. Have some shenanigans happen between the party members.
*chuckles* I made her sort of dirty-looking - I imagined her out living in a swamp or something. I also wasn't given any particular art direction for this one, so I wanted it to be somewhat ambiguous/open to interpretation so the project leaders could use it however they might end up needing. Maybe she's just a horribly eccentric old lady but totally peaceful and helpful to players, or maybe she's a classic evil witch who's sold her soul and has unnatural abilities, or maybe she's an evil creature that just looks human but isn't human at all?
Historically, they're often intended to be ambivalent in lore/folktales - sometimes they're intended to test a person's goodness, other times they're villainous witches. In games they're usually hostile, although sometimes they'll pretend to be friendly/helpful at first, or be in magical disguise.
