" This year was rough, both on my wallet and the economy. I was fired from my job because of cutbacks and lack of customer income. No sales means no money. No money means no job. No job means no source of income. Cant pay bills that easily, cant buy food that freely. On top of that, the holidays are here. Holidays means buying gifts for others. It also means traveling to relatives Most to none of that are in my plans this year.
I am not the only one who is suffering because this year. Some of my friends are constantly looking for jobs and income. Its terrible and sad. i had planned to get gifts to all my friends, but that is not going to happen. I cant really afford to buy myself something that I really want. I thought this year would be a gift-less Christmas until I got something in the mail: a Christmas card. It was a cheap hand-made one, but it was from a friend of mine. She too is suffering from the economy. From the cold weather, that brought a smile to my face. This shows me that I am not alone in this world and just a simple card or an email would make anyone happy who are suffering this year."
I am very sorry that I didn't have time to draw everyone an image this year. This has been a rough and buys year. lol. So I decided to do one image for all. This image is dedicated to my friends both offline and online, to my fans and to those who helped me when I was down.
A small gift can make a large difference in someone's mood. Its like the old saying: "Its the thought that counts." My folks and sister this year plan to spend less on gifts and just get small gifts instead of big ones. Being an artist, you can create gifts for others. Handmade gifts are more personal than something from BestBuy. Buying things for another is a sign of friendship and love, but that is just physical material that will just break and collect dust in the future. Memories last forever.
Have a Merry Christmas, no matter how simple it is.

It really is the thought that counts. After thinking about it for the past few days, what I did for a friend was better than getting any gifts.
Last week before I went home for Christmas Break, a friend of mine was feeling heavy laden and irritated. Since she is an upperclassman (or woman in this case) she has had a lot more to do than I had for this semester and has had to deal with a lot of annoying children, since she is and education major, and freshman (not that there is much of a difference between the two X3 ). But one day at lunch she was telling me about all the crap she had been going through as of late. I really hate seeing her, or anyone for that matter, feeling that bummed so I decided to kinda liven things up for her. I eventually got her to laugh a little and lighten her mood. Before I left for a final exam, she thanked me for cheering her up and gave me a hug that not too many people get from her.
Every time I think about that I feel glad I was able to help someone like that. Giving your caring heart is better than receiving what you've always wanted, in my opinion at least.
Have a Happy Holidays Ookami! And a Happy New Year as well.

The words of a friend are dearest of all. I wish for you to be happy and full. I give of you my heart this year. For that is all I can bear to give. For with the world being all dark and cold. I wish for you to be happy and warm. For the light of the stars, shineing once so bright. Dimmed now by neon lights. The spirit of the year lost in the rush. Where one must buy gifts to show you care. Yet i can only think of a few things more great. Then a card in the mail, by one you no longer can greet.
Even tho we are strangers now on this most darkest of nights. There is the lights we hang in the trees. Even if one does not belive. The lights now meen more to you and me. Knowing that there just a beacon of hope one can see. I hope that you my friend I do not know. Can understand this one simple glow.
That even tho miles may keep us apart. And that our faces probably we will never see. That I am here by your side on this one Christmas eve. Happy holidays dear friends. May your new year be filled with joy.

I think this picture, and the prose with it, puts a finger right on Christmas this year - with the recession and all. After all, behind (and before) the christian messages of Christmas is a celebration of life, nature and surviving the cold (in our hearts or otherwise).
the subtlety of the expression in the picture really brings out the message, as with a lot of the other pieces, which really puts that extra bit of sparkle and depth into the image. The prose is heartwarming without being overly hyperbolic or cliche a perfect balance.
I hope you had a very good Christmas, and have a great new year.
