November 15, 1915 - the day that King Features Syndicate was founded and the 'funnies' in Sunday newspapers would become the norm for readers across the USA (and around the world).
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of KFS, I'd decided to 'colorize' one of my older comic gags - one that originally appeared in the 'funny animal' APAzine "Rowrbrazzle". At the time I'd drawn said gag, I had an affiliation with the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton, Florida, whose founder was Mort Walker - the creator/cartoonist of "Beetle Bailey". And, since I enjoy drawing anthropomorphic characters, I'd teamed up my own characters ('Rob Cat' and 'Donovan Lupus') with Walker's military mutt 'Otto'. In adding color to the imagery, I'd also made a few corrections to the dog (using my Paint.Net program), touching up one of his paws and giving his uniform a couple of stripes. You can still see the original black-and-white version of "Camp Swampy" (mistakes and all) in my 'Gallery' by going to http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10934649/
BTW, Mr. Walker (who is now 92) is still drawing "Beetle Bailey" for King Features Syndicate - with the help of one of his sons, Greg Walker. Presently, this strip is the longest-running comic whose artist is still drawing it! (He even made an appearance about the KFS Centennial on the November 15, 2015 broadcast of CBS News' "Sunday Morning".)

(FOOTNOTE: The centennial of the comic pages published by King Features Syndicate was overshadowed by the tragic news of the terrorist attacks throughout Paris, France - less than 48 hours earlier.)
ADDENDA: Mort Walker passed away (from pneumonia) in his Connecticut home on January 27, 2018. He was 94.
