Chapter 2:
The adventure begins
Looking into the eye of the wolf Arin gulped audibly and tried to speak up. His voice scratchy and hoarse from days of not being used. Trying his hardest to form the words he needed he couldn’t help but nearly get lost in the brown eye of the imposing creature above him.
“You.. Can understand me?”
The king stood grinning down at the frightened boy. Standing again he grabbed Arin by his shirt lifting him up and speaking in that same tongue as before.
“Manaalak kinish FAGA”
The crowd cheered and stood howling before the king bent down just by Arin’s ear. The voice of the old wolf whispered in a near happy tone
“You.. Young one. Will be the next to face our champion in the battle of strength. You the odd beast who have come from the sky. Will be tested. But first I as king shall give you a gift.”
In an instant Arin’s throat was grabbed as he was lifted above the wolf’s head. As his remaining eye glowed a crimson red a pulse shot through his body and into the boy.
Dropping Arin onto the floor the female that carried him in here brought him into her arms checking him for scratches like a doting mother. And then he heard the voices. Voices he understood.
Looking around the cave he saw the other wolf people howling. They started charging the center of the room and lifted him up carrying him from his closest “friend” as she looked at him with a look of shock in her eyes.
It was then that he heard what the voices were chanting as he was being carried by the mob.
“Test! Test! Test!
Arin suddenly found himself airborne as he was tossed into a room. Noticing a light at the end of the room he got up and started for it. The diaper between his legs was definitely thick but it seemed like he was still maneuverable enough to move without much resistance.
As he got closer to the light he noticed odd things scrawled across the wall. As he looked at the symbols they seemed to dance and move before his eyes before they moved into words he could actually read.
He read aloud under his breath as the words formed.
“Chooses wisely young warrior. The path you choose will be one of destruction or peace. Choose your weapon from this room with no weakness. Let your power spring forth from it as if it were from you.”
Stepping through the light he found himself in a large domed room. The light he saw emanating from the room was actually from three large crystals jutting forth from the center of the room. The blue glow from them was nearly entrancing as he noticed there seemed to be things stuck inside.
Taking a closer look he noticed there were what seemed to be weapons sticking out of them. In one appeared to be a crossbow, in another a gigantic sword, and in the final crystal was a rather modern looking Sniper rifle type gun.
As he looked between the weapons a glint caught his eye. Looking towards it he saw a smaller clumped in with the others. Inside it appeared to be a decorated dagger lined with different runes that seemed to pulse.
Reaching out to touch the crystal he jumped back as the crystal itself burned with an intense light. After a few seconds the crystal shattered into hundreds of pieces the dagger seemed to float in the air until he reached out and grabbed it.
As he grabbed the dagger it seemed to shine as a leather scabbard seemed to materialize around it. After a few moments Arin felt a pulling sensation on his tunic as the world around him seemed to shift and move.
The cave he stood in seemed to melt away around him and as it shifted back into reality he was standing in the middle of what appeared to be a theatre. He saw rows and rows of occupied benches all around him.
The wolf people were again all around him but the room was dead silent. Sitting on the topmost row in the center was the king wolf as he stood and spoke in a booming voice.
“Young smooth skin. I have given you a gift! You have been given some of my Zounds. Now with only hearing a few words you can discern our languages and hear them as your own.”
Taking a seat The wolf raised his paw in a signal as Arin turned his head to see a large stone door open. The king spoke again his voice booming as something large stalked out of the doorway.
The form of a hulking grey wolf stepped out his upper body rippling with muscles as he stood. A hammer easily twice the size of Arin sat on his back.
“And as I have so graciously given you this gift you will repay me with entertainment. You will fight my champion to test your strengths. Be wary he has never lost a duel to the death.”
A drop of something wet hit Arin on the top of his head. Looking up he saw the feral crazed looking maw of the beast looming over him snarling down at him. A line of drool dripped from his maw onto arins face as he jumped back.
If he had been only a few seconds slower his head would have been crushed by the hammer that quickly came down where he once stood.
