On the one hand, creepy vibes and urge to annoy. At the same time though, it's hard not to feel pity and sadness once you know the whole story.

Very much so, a great indicator that the creator has done an awesome job is when they can get you to feel pity even for the 'villains', even the ones that at first seem to be stereotypical 'bad guys' without any real depth or character to them.

Semi-related, and because it's just too awesome not to share, but if, as I'm guessing is the case, you have completed Undertale, give the following a look. It's all sorts of awesome, and presents a sort of 'alternate' ending to True Pacifist, one I really wish was actually possible in-game:
