Wow...a beautiful machine. But, is it really referred to as a "phonograph"? I thought a phonograph was even older and used the cylinders that spun on a spindle.

You're referring to the Amberola Cylinder Phonograph by Edison. ^.=.^
Phonograph is usually a universal term for a record player in general, but yes was originally
referring to the Amberola style players of the time

Pretty much, anything that has a record with a groove and is played back with a stylus is a phonograph or record player.

Hmm, I guess one exception would be RCA's SelecaVision CED video disk format. So..... phonographs are audio only
