I was in the middle of working on this when the tablet pen went AWOL, can you believe. my poor little heart
my first encounter of an alpha deathclaw (and a glowing one, now that I think about it) was as a legendary, I was thoroughly dunked on and had to resort to trickery to win

The first time I played Fallout 4, I cranked the difficulty up to max.... when I encountered the first death claw, I had to turn it down several notches. Not because I died in one hit, but because I literally did not have enough bullets to kill it, even when using explosions from the near by cars.
I know exactly how that is. Came upon this park. So I am just exploring right?
I sneak into this shack with like 4 protectrons. I activate them and go on explorin'
bump nose to nose with this glowing legendary monster of a Deathclaw and I book.
Ran right throw the lil gaggle of robots and turn to fight. Gotta love those little moments.

> MY EXPERIENCE WITH HALF THE MOBS IN FALLOUT 4.
I walked into a shop and there were 'sleeping' hordes of ghouls, and when you walk in one of the robot monkeys triggers and wakes them all up. So you have 10 feral ghouls attacking you, and each can take 3 - 4 point blank shots from a sawed off shotgun and NOT DIE. :I

I got a combat rifle with extra damage against ghouls to help against 'em (it's hard to shoot anything that's sprint-diving at you, let alone ten at once tho), but it's a pity there isn't one for deathclaws, since I don't think they come under the 'animals' part of the Hunter weapons ._.
That was the other part of the problem, as soon as you see them they've already leaped across the room and are biting your ankles. I found the solution to fighting a bunch of them was shooting their leg with a 10mm pistol I found with 50% bonus limb damage. Usually only takes 1-2 shots in VATS and they just lay there until you can deal with them.
You should see the jamaican plain (village) then.
Only 3 ghouls at border of village. killed one, suddenly infinite stream of ghouls coming out of the village at you. It were... 20... 30?... ghouls... always in groups of 3 up to 4, once one grp was finished, already the next one arrived.

I'm up to level 50, so I should be getting in the stage above Glowing fairly soon.. the kicker is I haven't done much of the main story, I'm one of those who runs off into the wasteland doing everything else :Y
You're likely to encounter them as event/end-dungeon bosses, or if you head into the Glowing Sea there's a lot of them just wandering around. Good place for hunting if you can afford it.

I've gotten to level thirty just a couple hours ago I think, with six Intelligence since the start. I think a few things that are a reason for my being underleveled for my time spent playing are reluctance to use fast travel, my continued use of military fatigues and leather armor bits (aesthetic preference) and weapons such as the hunting rifle and submachine gun. (functionality preference) Despite how good I am at shooting without V.A.T.S. and staying smart in combat, I'm getting killed like crazy by almost any legendary I encounter. And, I'm only playing on normal. I think Southern Commonwealth enemies are just designed to be fought with power armor and Gatling lasers, kinda pisses me off.
Anyways... I hope this kinda off-topic ranting doesn't bother you on your drawing comments.

I don't use power armor much at all, it's too bulky for my tastes. Legendaries are there to be difficult, and Mirelurks.. hooo boy if you don't have energy weapons you're in for a bad time there. I use a legendary combat rifle which gives added damage against ghouls, as well as a plasma rifle - a fully modded plasma rifle is the most overpowered weapon I've managed to obtain (barring the big guns but those are also cumbersome), if you fight gunners in Quincy you're likely to pick one up from one of them at your level. Armor shouldnt matter too much if you use terrain to your advantage against most creatures.
Heheh, not at all. What's the point in drawing game fanart if you don't get to talk about the game around it?

My character, Frank Keegan, only uses conventional ballistic weaponry, so I think I might give his combat shotgun an armor piercing receiver, if this new advanced receiver I put on it doesn't cut it for Mirelurks.
I just recently discovered sturdy versions of leather armor that I've upgrading to and made studded. Hopefully it makes a good enough difference in combat.

Awesome, always loved the design of deathclaws, they have gotten significantly scarier and scalier over the years. My hardest deathclaw encounter yet was fighting the Savage Deathclaw during the Devils Due side mission. Whooped my ass, had to scum it out using bottlecap mines and rockets. Like the changes to their mechanics overall, they're definitely more intimidating and dangerous than they were in 3 and New Vegas, if they were even possible.
