My dad makes armor--real armor like this, not cloth and shiny polyester--as a hobby. I know full well how amazingly heavy an 18 pound shirt can feel. =p
His full ring-mail shirt weighs upwards of 20 pounds, I believe. When he's wearing a full suit of armor, his weight more than doubles.
