In the wake of this recent series of wacky wet weather (not just in the USA, but around the world), I thought I'd present a piece of 'cover art' I'd drawn over a decade ago, which paralleled another meteorological disaster; namely, the great Texas floods of 1998 (spawned by 'El Nino').
Back in the 1990s, while contributing my 'furry art' to "Rowrbrazzle", I was invited to join a smaller, digest-sized APAzine, that's published in the Dallas area. "The Dallas Brawl Update" (or "DBU" for short) was way ahead of many Internet sites at the time, in that many of its characters (created by various anthroartists) would interact with one another through stories and artwork. (I, myself, drew a series of gags involving 'Bloat Cola' - that highly-carbonated concoction - having "DBU" cast members trying the stuff, only to get inflated in one way or another.) Some of the contributors (besides myself) are "Fur Affinity" members (such as
MelWhite,
mistypine01, et al)...
This 'cover art' I'd drawn in March, 1998 shows the diversity of the "DBU" cast - which includes dragons, giraffes, male kangaroos (with pouches), bizarre aliens, etc. I was able to squeeze in a few gags for nearly every character in this one-panel image, which covered the (then) flooding of portions of eastern Texas. Seeing it in digest-size (half of an 8 1/2"x11" sheet of paper) doesn't do this image justice, unless you saw it in a larger size... Enjoy (and stay dry)!

This particular image with the various characters and gags reminds me of the opening artwork of a typical parody in MAD Magazine - where all of the characters (from the movie or TV show being satirized) are introduced and are given witty lines, before the real action begins. Hence, the 'throwaways' about all those life preservers on the neck of 'Lincoln Hightower', the kangaroo pouch gag (based on one from an old Paramount/Noveltoon short subject), and the raft gag (based on a joke about floods from Louie Anderson).
"To people who live in a 'flood zone'... after the first time, don't you get it?!" - Louie Anderson
