It seems in that universe that either the medieval kingdom was located in the Americas, or had trade with them. Why do I say this you ask. Because there is Maize (Indian corn) in Tor's cart and it was unknown in Europe until the early colonists (IIRC) found the "Native Americans" eating it. That is one reason it is known as Indian corn; as "corn" was the generic term for all grains. It was the American colonists that started calling it just "corn".
