This piece is the top 3/4ths of my most recent school project. An art piece from my heart.
For the past few years, I've been having nightmares about the fact that wildlife biologists
have been maiming, mutilating, and causing the deaths of thousands of wild animals with heavy
radio collars and large heavy ear tags. Ear tags that have been seen tearing through animal's
ears, weighing their ears down to the point they can no longer hear properly, and I've even seen
cases where they've placed up to 5 ear tags on my favorite animal, the mountain lion. How sick is
that, having the poor cat's ears pierced against his will FIVE TIMES! Even IF it was necessary, that's DEFINITELY overdoing it!!!
Not to mention the Identification tattoos that are put in their ears, and even in their mouths (which would not only be excruciatingly painful, but could VERY EASILY be fatally infected from eating raw meat). All of these things are done to cubs just as much as adults. People say piercing babies ears is often wrong, well what
about weighing them down with piercings, causing them to grow deformed in adulthood, and tattooing
their ears and somethimes the inside of their mouth. Don't worry though, it's for "Science".
Drawings of furries may make these facts seem insignificant, but these are real animals I'm talking about. Not something that willingly wants to be stabbed, mutilated, or hindered in any ways whatsoever. I don't know
about you guys, but I'd call unwanted pain and mutilation: 'Torture', in its purest form.
This is all done in the name of "science" and "observation". When I've searched for the statements
and opinions of those doing this to animals they seem to either completely act like they didn't
just mutilate the animal, or simply say it's "For Their Research".
As far as I've searched for the past 3 years, the WWF, PETA, or ANY other wildlife or animal protection agencies don't see radio collaring, ear tagging, or tattooing as a bad thing, or a threat to any species. I seem to be completely alone in this endeavor of unseen torture of innocent animals. I feel ENTIRELY powerless to stop this, because I am. We all expect the big organizations to take care of everything, but what do you do if they don't care, and you're the only one seeing the atrocities right in front of you?
Because this picture seems like the only thing "I" can do.
