I'm sure most of you are aware of the tragic past of Kayla Bowles (aka Voltage Vixen II) and how once her mother died she had a real rough time as she was bounced around between foster and group homes. There have been plenty of "What If's" floating around concerning Kayla and how her life could have been different, and here I'd like to present another one. At the time of Lillian Bowles murder, William Thackman (who would one day become the unregistered hero known as Wraith) was still a CIA agent though he allowed himself on some rare occasions to indulge in a little 'off the record' crime fighting. This had led him to cross paths with Lillian as Voltage Vixen many times, and when he heard of what happened he knew that he had to do something.

Returning to Colmaton, William managed to discover through his contacts that the man responsible for Lillian's death wasn't going to be satisfied with just that and seemed bent on ruining her daughter's life as well. Deeming this to be absolutely unacceptable, William outmaneuvered them behind the scenes and eventually was able to secure legal guardianship of Kayla himself. Knowing all to well the pain of losing one's parents, William had himself temporarily reassigned to a desk job so he could stay in the city and raise Kayla as best he could for the next several years. When her powers began manifesting he helped her control them.

Eventually, William retired from the CIA and began work as a bounty hunter and putting his considerable abilities to good use. He couldn't keep Kayla in the dark forever though, and once she was old enough William decided to train her so she could follow in her mother's footsteps.
