Got this beautiful amethyst sample from a friend who returned from a trip to Austria a few days ago. Decided to put it next to my sample of chalcedony for size comparison (the amethyst chunk is 12 cm long and 9 cm wide, the chalcedony is 7.5 cm long and 4 cm wide).
Looking for a way to get rid of those white stains/coating on the top side, but even with them it looks gorgeous.

Soft brush, small keyboard vaccum/canned air. But be careful.
Also... Remember: Water doesn't hurt it either. With many of my geodes I let them soak, and washed and dried them by letting them sit for several days, and then washed again. Just letting the water wash off the dirt, and dust.

Tried water before, it got rid of most of the dirt but the white spots still remain. Tried to gently scrub them off but it seems to be digging into the crystals themselves when I do it, so I'm looking into some stuff that can get rid of it periodically-I read somewhere that dipping the amethyst in vinegar or ammonia helps, though it only mentions it's used for iron stains. Not something like this.
