I use whatever is on hand... I've done it with all kinds of coffee... this one is done with Espresso
White speckles are done with liquid frisket ... it's a liquid rubber that dries and protects the paper, after coloring you remove it and the paper is white under it
I'm not a fan of watercolour paper I find them too grainy, so I use 147lb Mix Media paper
