Telling people to be afraid of terrorism is basically just the government pointing at other countries and going:
"See that foreign lot over there? They have a different culture and opinion to you, and a few of them are deranged lunatics who bomb stuff, so you should be afraid of ALL OF THEM, because the fact that a small minority of them are deranged lunatics with bombs must of course mean that their poorly-understood culture makes them ALL deranged lunatics with bombs! Just keep being afraid of them and don't look at what we're doing. It's all for our own...Err, I mean for YOUR own good!"
"Divide and conquer" is a remarkably effective strategy...

I think that is true in a minority of present cases, at least in this country. The Obama administration has made an effort to follow Bush-style policies with a more intelligent-seeming presentation. The story changes to suit the supporters but the ending stays the same.
And ironically most of our local murdering is done by people who were raised here, who resent changes that really aren't occurring.
However, bear in mind I drew this picture a year ago and only yanked that headline from a few days ago!
