Guess it depends on how people is, my "very catholic go at least once a week to church if not more and participate on congregation activities" have more of a "if they're decent persons, matters not what they believe or they don't believe at all", and e being the vikingr I am, get along pretty well, and every now and then I even lend a hand on their congregation with some muscle when charity donations have to be received and/or sent (and they send it mostly to non-religious places where they don't ask your faith, just if you need help). They never question that while baptised at birth I never go to chuch, or that I swear on other gods and even menial stuff like me carrying a mjölnir on my neck, to "bigger" things like one of my cousins got engaged and finally married to a guy who's jewish. They literally went all "if you both are happy together, that's what matters".
Now, if you ask me, if more catholics or christians in general were like that, things would go better for them and everyone around 'em.

HUGEST QUESTION EVASION Rick has ever performed heeeheeehee!
This was probing of the lady and it sounds the start of something real bad, but something else makes me know that this is going to end well, that Adrian's going to get a lot of help and relief from just trying to raise Ali alone, and that's only one part of the help that's coming. o3o

Here's a thought:
What if she's of a religion that states marriage is not a prerequisite to child birth?
What if she simply adopted her child?
What if she indeed is of a sexual preference that's not allowed to get married first?
What if she agreed to become a surrogate mother and the other parents then backed out of the deal?
What if, heaven forbid, she got mugged and her ring was stolen?
There's more than one possible explanation for this besides the shameful one, you know!
Sorry, this is indeed a pet peeve of mine.

Really. The power of observation. It's admittedly an awkward question, but just looking at how the bear is drawn, nothing about her expressions or body language so far reads judgmental. Maybe a bit energetically oblivious in the socially awkward sorta way, but not ill intent.
Or, what if she asked the question and saw her, through body language, suddenly tense up and get uncomfortable.
I still think people are lumping negativity on this bear character way too soon. Sure, she could be getting set up to be the stereotype, but maybe she's not and folks are letting there personal biases see 'bad intentions' where there aren't any. Of course, that's up to Rick, being the story teller and all.

I'm still holding out the hope that her only character flaws are that she's of a one-track mind (hyper-religiosity in this case), rather nosy, and somewhat limited in tact, but not in a judgmental manner. Going entirely on what I've seen in the comic thus far, yes, she's super Christian and little else, but I haven't seen anything that outright demonstrates her to be a judgmental or holier-than-thou one. It's easy to understand why, as just about everyone has had a bad experience with such people (to put it mildly for some cases), but right now the comic has been playing off of those fears and not actually confirming it, even up to this point. It could just be that she doesn't see single motherhood as something sinful, but something difficult for the mother and child, and this is how she shows compassion, care, and understanding towards it (likely with a lot of random and unsolicited dinners showing up on their doorstep). Not the most subtle or tactful manner, of course, but it would be an interesting combination of admirable and flawed character traits.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
You certainly know how to set up a cliff hanger, Rick!

Seems like a legit question really in getting to know you situations like that (I mean, she did ask her about her personal life and job, so that door was already open). i again decide to wait instead pf speculating and making prejudgements about these characters. For all we know the bear's a really honest to goodness nice person who asks what one would think are uncomfortable questions, innocently. Lord knows we all have run into these sorts of people in our daily lives and they don't do so to be evil or mean. Just sort of oblivious.
