Nightmare, as in Nightmare from Ragnarok Online? Unsure if 'black horse on fire named nightmare' is exclusive to one thing, though. No-doubt reminiscent of some mythology I'm unaware of.

It is more along the lines of Nightmare: Black horse on fire type deal which possibly got it start from the Greek myth of the Diomedean Mares. Am not aware of the nightmares in Ragnarok Online but am aware they used the term nightmare in regards of Dark Age of Camelot to describe a lich type being. In most other fantasy games though (from that of Dungeons and Dragons to that of Magic the Gathering) a nightmare is described as being a black horse with flaming tail and mane or that of a Hellhorse.

Ahh, makes more sense, now. The Nightmares from RO are very similar, though entirely purple - including the flame, and have fleshless-faces. A downgradeed version appears earlier in the game that follows the colour scheme of this picture, and thankfully, have fleshed out faces. xD
