The city was bright. Every turn and corner glittered with the neon signs. There didn't seem to be any possible way to escape the luminescence .The bustle of the city made me cringe as car horns, sirens, and the bustle of the crowd created a cacophony of noise that rang through my ears. I just walked along with the crowd, ignoring as much of the noise as I possibly could, passing restaurants, stores, bars, and office buildings like a never ending maze. Turn after turn was the same thing; bright lights and people. I only wanted to pass through, but it didn’t seem like fate wanted me to leave so soon. I just sighed and kept on walking. The only upside I saw was that no one here seemed to care about a shadow dragon being around. People just passed by without even a glance.
After bustling around for at least an hour trying to find salvation from the glittering town, I found a small alley. It wasn’t a very large alley and it only had a few trash bins that seemed to be completely ignored because the ground was littered with trash consisting mostly of beer cans and wine bottles. I assumed they were the litter from the bar door that I saw farther down the alley. It was it was lit up by one single, solitary light that hung right above the door. The ramp that ascended to the door was chipped and broken and stained, probably due to fights and some bloodshed.
As I continued down the alley, I heard the bar door slam open. By reflex, I slid behind the nearest trash can to hide.
“AND STAY OUT!”
At that call, I saw a young lion cub pushed out the door. He tried clawed back but the hand poking out the door was much stronger than he was and slashed back, knocking that young one down.
“You don’t know who you’re dealing with.” The cub yelled.
“Just drop it Rick,” Said another voice which belonged to an older cat that sauntered out the same door. “You’re not fooling anyone.” The tall cat puffed out a cloud of smoke from the cigarette. Just at that moment, a guitar came out of the door and hit the cub.
“AND WE DON’T WANT ANY OF YOUR PLAGURISED CRAP NEITHER!”
The door slammed shut and you could hear it being locked.
“Great this is the third bar tonight that you’ve gotten us thrown out of.”
“They just don’t understand talent.”
“No……what they don’t understand is why an underage lion is trying to perform at a bar,” Explained the cat as he puffed out another cloud of smoke. “And why do you have to get me involved whenever this happens?”
“Because you’re the only one I can go…!”
I accidentally nudged the trash can enough to make a sound.
“Who’s there?” The cub said as he looked around.
“You hear something?”
“Didn’t you?”
“No I didn’t.”
The cub saw something down the alley in my direction.
“Is that a tail?”
“Hahaha………” I thought to myself. How could I forget the most important rule about not being seen?
“Okay. Okay. You Caught me.” I said as I rose from behind the trash can.
“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to make you suspicious. When, I heard that door open, I kind of went and hid by reflex.”
I chinked out one dagger a little bit for preparation just in case.
“Well what are you……?” The tall cat noticed the dagger. “S-so what are you doing here?”
“Well….I was trying to get away from all the lights in this damn bright city.”
“Well that’s how it is here.” The cub yelled.
“I’m sorry I haven’t introduced myself. My name is TH Kagero.”
“I could care less right now but the name is Xander and this cub in the ghetto outfit is Rick.”
“I started pulling out one of my daggers to show them but I was interrupted when Xander yelled, “Don’t take that out.” He had a gun in his hand, but I noticed his hand was shaking from what I knew was fright.
“I’m not gonna hurt yo………”
“Put it back.”
“ooookayyy………….?”
Rick came up to me and told me that Xander was aichmophobic.
“Sorry, I didn’t know.” I stated and then slipped the dagger back into its sheath. At the same time, Xander lowered his gun.
“You still haven’t told us why you’re here.”
“I told you it was because I wanted to escape the lights. Being a shadow dragon, lights are a bit much when used to that limit.”
“Yah, it can be a little too bright around here.”
“So you were just kicked out of that…….er………..bar?”
“They wouldn’t let me in for some reason.”
“I can’t imagine why….” I sarcastically stated, as I stared slightly down at Rick. “Anyway do you know an exit out of the city? I’m just passing through here.”
“Take a right when you leave the alley here, then just keep heading in that direction and you’ll end up at the south exit.”
“Thanks for that but I’m looking for the west exit.”
“Just turn le……….”
“Just turn left at the end of the alley and then a left at the light.” Rick had interrupted Xander.
“Shut up Rick,” Xander then turned to me, “Hope you find your way out. Take this map I have.”
Xander tossed over a map which I immediately opened.
“No wonder I kept getting lost. Everything on here looks almost the same. Thanks for the map.”
“No problem. Now I’m going back in. Rick stay out I don’t want to be banned from this bar.”
“Awww…Come on Xander.
As this conversation was going on, I quietly turned around and slipped out of the alley without them noticing.
Xander walked out the alley back to the entrance of the bar while Rick stood there perplexed no doubt about my disappearance.
“Where did he go?”
I walked in the directions that Xander had given me laughing to myself.
“It’s crazy, who you can meet in such a large city.”
