Hiddson: Hello and welcome to another edition of Bandits Breakdown, your one stop shop for all things Las Vegas Bandits! Brett Hiddson along with Terrence Thursday, with Issabelle Holt on the sidelines. Twelve games in, Bandits winning ten of them and looking to continue this pace against a Waves team eliminated from postseason contention but more than wishing to spoil a conference rival.
Thursday: And perhaps a chance to give the team a bit of a breather and maybe sit a starter or two to prepare for the postseason themselves, but Coach Erinia not wanting to play any favorites knowing Downriver will come with their best.
Hiddson: Especially after a big win against the Titans last week, Waves fans looking for this to be a trap game.
*cue highlight footage starting with Adrie Dawkins and Alex Kangaroo*
Hiddson: And that is why they play the game. Bandits 10 and 2. Waves 1-11. Dawkins and Kangaroo leading a pregame speech and leading the Waves. And a wave of mutilation for Carson as he makes a rather quick trip to the sidelines and the locker room. Issabelle Holt reporting that it was flu-like symptoms and was quarantined thanks to the training staff for the rest of the game. Big Trouble as Kangaroo was taking advantage of the newfound freedom.
KLVB Play-by-Play: 1st and goal for the Waves and a heavy formation... Dawkins play fakes to the running back and darts a pass to Kangaroo... Touchdown... And the Waves find themselves drawing first strike against the Bandits.
Hiddson: That was from our friends at KLVB radio. Not too pleased but not unexpected that the Waves would take advantage of Carson's absence, Terry.
Thursday: Right, Brett. Always has the match up of the toughest receiver from the opposition and Groetzer couldn't make the adjustment that quickly despite the valiant effort.
Hiddson: Soon after the Waves added a field goal and made it a 10 point lead. The Downriver Waves with a double digit lead! But it's not uncommon for the Bandits to deal with but they would have to respond and would with this...
KLVB Play-by-Play: 12 seconds left in the quarter... 1st and 10 at the 8 yard line. Bandits trying to get out of the shadow of their goal post to get a good start at the second quarter... Stapler hands off to Paige...finds a hole on the left side makes a fur miss... has daylight!... 30.. 40.. 50.. Footrace and the last fur that tries fails to bring him down!... 30... 20... 10... TOUCHDOWN BANDITS!! What a way to end the first quarter and that's the shot in the arm this team needed.
Hiddson: Truer words never better spoken from our friends once again at KLVB, Paige with a 92 yard touchdown run. Longest in Franchise history!
Thursday: Just another notch to a stellar season from Paige and he keeps the Bandits hanging around almost single-pawedly.
Hiddson: Second quarter action now and the Bandits looking to keep the Waves contained... Dawkins looking to pass and it's picked off by Justin Hartman his first pick of the year! Bandits would manage to get a field goal out of it though to tie the game. And the Waves would respond with their own field goal to retake the lead 13-10.
Thursday: Two more field goals would make the lead the same for the Waves in the third. 16-13. Bandits running out of real estate if they want to keep this winning streak intact.
Hiddson: But thanks to solid field position, The Bandits are in business.
KLVB Play-by-Play: 1st and goal at the 4, Stapler play fakes to Paige. Finds RVA in the corner... and CAUGHT!! TOUCHDOWN BANDITS!! *crowd roars and cheers* Roy Viridi-Aqua's 10th Touchdown grab of the season for the rookie canine and the Bandits lead it 20-16!
Hiddson: Once more from our friends at KLVB! And what a time to take the lead. And R.V.A. doing his best to bid for rookie of the year! With a stellar season so far.
Thursday: And if that wasn't enough. Stapler on 3rd and 7 calling the play on the 10 yard line sees the formation and changes up. Going for a QB Draw play. Finding room on the right hash mark for the exclamation point. Touchdown Bandits and that's your final score. 27-16 Bandits over the Downriver Waves! 14 unanswered points in the fourth to finish the game.
Hiddson: Exactly, Terry. More importantly it puts the Desert Desperadoes one step closer to clinching the conference. And here's word from Sylvester Stapler from his post game presser.
Stapler: Gotta hand it to the Waves, they gave us a wake up call we needed to stay focused. Cause we can't win games by simply showing up to the stadium. We gotta keep working and playing hard to get to where we want to get to...
Thursday: Just the type of maturity you want to see from the franchise QB as he's right. The Waves you have to remember, even as down trodden as they are, were last season's champions. And though they haven't found that same success this season, they still have good talent around them to make a bounce back season with a well planned offseason ahead of them.
Hiddson: Indeed, Terry. But for your Bandits. 11-2 with three more games left. And the Bandits marked their calendars for this next match up against the North Florida Renegades. But for now we'll take a short break but when we return a preview of that very match up.
