This is part of a series of themed commissions from this year's Midwest FurFest. Months ago at Anthrocon, I was struck with a wave of creative inspiration which led me to devise a team of super sexy sorceresses who wield both magic and technology with equal skill. To introduce them, I opted to have each of them drawn by a different artist at the convention. This one, however... was drawn by yours truly. I figured it would be symbolic for the team's leader to be drawn by the creator, though I readily admit my artwork can in no way match the level of skill present in the other pieces. Even so, I gotta start somewhere :P I present the Tech Sorceresses, and the leader of Aurora Coven, Onyx.

Onyx is Aurora Coven's leader. For a time she was the trusted second-in-command to Andromeda’s Starfire Coven, but when Oasis decided to reform Aurora after the horrifying loss of its original members, Onyx was her first pick to lead the new group, seeing a wealth of potential that would not have been able to grow in Andromeda’s shadow. Onyx is inexperienced as a leader, but she was trained by the best of the best, and her dedication to the order is unquestionable. She brings a mature, thoughtful direction to the new Coven, having both an insatiable curiosity in the mystical and wary cautiousness of the darkness that can originate from it. She’s also a crack shot with ranged spells, frequently igniting her custom revolver with runes and crystal shards to take down her foes before they even realize she’s there. In spite of her initial hesitation to the new position, she saw from day one that Oasis' selections for the team were sound, as they had all worked together remarkably well in a prior mission despite being split among their respective Covens at the time. Onyx now sees this as an opportunity to prove herself and show that she is capable of handling her own Coven. At the same time, she also desires to respect the memory of the original Aurora Coven that came before, whose loss is still felt among the order to this day. She isn't superstitious, but she is also well aware that they will likely be facing the same force that destroyed the first Coven someday soon. She holds out a cautious hope that they can learn from what happened back then, and drive back the darkness before it engulfs the entire realm.

I realize I am giving her the same name as one of my Jewel Vixens, but don't worry, I can easily distinguish them ;) As I stated above, my own artwork cannot compare to those of the other artists I commissioned to draw these Tech Sorceresses, but I hoped to at least do her justice by adding a few personal touches here. Her outfit may not exactly seem practical, but this is kinda the point. The whole idea behind these Tech Sorceresses was to blend Frazetta with "magical girl" tropes, and give them fully fleshed out backgrounds and personalities to make them more than just eye candy. I'm still world-building, but I already have the makings of a basic plot outline for their story and plenty of material in their collected histories. Plus, I've always wanted to create a sexy gemsbok lady and now I've finally found a setting for her :p
